ethnography question

hey everyone, I changed my topic to the Buddhist religion. I have a question, what is the way to go about asking for interviews at a church? I feel like it would be kind of awkward does anyone else feel like that? Who would I ask? and also, should I be recording things there? I Feel like that would be innapropriate. just a couple questions =)

My suggestion is that if you find a church to go visit dont just sit and take notes during one of their meetings. it will makes them and you feel uncomforable. I think the best way to learn and observe is to engage yourself and interact with them. When asking question about their beliefs, show interest and be sensitive to their feelings. Have fun

I found this http://www.slbuddhist.org/contact/index.htm
A Salt Lake Buddhist temple. They mention in their FAQ too: "We are fortunate that many groups from high schools, colleges, seminaries and other organizations visit the temple and ask questions about Buddhism and about being Buddhists."

My suggestion goes along with Nick's: the best way to do observe and learn is to engage yourself and interact with them.
Finding a way to interact with them will probably be the most difficult part. Just make sure you are extra friendly and talk (soflty and respectfully) to the people near you. ie: Hello! Can I sit here? or something similar will help you get a conversation going. They will probably ask about you and why you are there. Then they might even offer to help you out. At the very least you might gain some friends.

Good luck!
