This is our class blog space. You will post specific assignments here and will also be expected to blog about your everyday encounters with language and your progress on your ethnography OR on anything else you'd like to blog about that's related to language. Lastly, you will be expected to comment on fellow students' posts.
Remember to use the help page in order to learn how to make links to websites and videos AND upload images. Note that these elements are what makes blogging unique as everyday users are able to combine images, links, and videos with their writing. It will be expected that your blog posts will illustrate the traits of the blog genre.

Glad to be here. I am very much looking forward to what this class has to offer. Language is often celebrated but seldom truly vetted or examined. It can free us with a word or imprison us just as easily.
"Language is the biggest barrier to human progress because language is an encyclopedia of ignorance. Old perceptions are frozen into language and force us to look at the world in an old fashioned way."
- Edward de Bono
Great! I think all languages are unique (even those which I don't understand) and help to create linguistic diversity that makes us unique as mankind.
Lets get started
I'm very excited to learn more about Language and Society. I had the opportunity last year to live in another country and experience a different language and culture. I think it will be fun to really understand and appreciate other backgrounds and culture.
Thanks,
Nick
