Racial Profiling and Linguistic Discrimination
I was really suprised that I did so bad on the quiz, but what I am more upset about is the fact that I knew who was white. I got everyone who was white (plus a couple others) right. It made me wonder if I am constantly only aware of who is white and/or of my own race. I am the furthest away from discrimination or racism of ANY kind, but it made me wonder if I only am aware of those who speak like I do, therefore if I am only intune to that particular sound. Because of the places I have lived and visited, I understand that others are going to speak the way others around them do, with or without a certain level of education, but I think that is what majority of people dont understand. I am glad that the woman on 20/20 did something about her experience with discrimination, she helped prove that it is out there and happening everyday. I think others discriminate against individuals of diverse race because they have a preconcieived notion that they are "different" and the individuals dont meet up to their own stature.

I agree with what Chelsea said, "I think others discriminate against individuals of diverse race because they have a preconcieved notion that they are 'different' and the individuals don't meet up to their own stature." This definately is the case in many instances. And as for Chelsea's "inability" to differentiate the different 'colors' of people by their voices might also be due to the fact that living in Utah doesn't give a large variety of different ethnicities and so if a person has been brought up here and is not exposed to the different dialects and accents as often will make it harder to decipher the origins or ethnic background of that person.
